Charts OSS: Modernize Kaleido

  • People still ask about it: https://community.plotly.com/t/plotly-plans-regarding-kaleido-and-orca/82516 - Hopefully we have time to get an update for Kaleido. - Emily & Alex talked about this, Emily is interested in Kaleido work. - Most important thing for Kaleido is stability (testing?) - There are some issues, like Mathjax is too bold. - It's feature complete. - Beginning of Kaleido effort is getting someone in-house up-to-speed on how to build and rebuild it with the latest Chromium. - Maintenance means upgrading the Chromium build on maybe... annual basis? Something to consider planning\/scheduling. > We have just upgraded the first users to Windows 11 and noticed, that there are issues with the kaleido rendering engine. There is already an issue in the kaleido GitHub: https://github.com/plotly/Kaleido/issues/126 > > Downgrading to 0.1.0post1, as recommended in the issue, fixes the problem. But given, that this issue is already open for 2 years, and reading through this linked issue left me worrying about the overall state of kaleido. I also don’t know what other functionality might be missing in 0.1.0post1 that is there in 0.2.1 (latest). > > Can you please let me know, what the situation is with kaleido? It seems like jonmease was the only contributor to the project and he hasn’t been active in the repo since October 2022. https://plotly.slack.com/archives/C01UTCS9AAX/p1711380151256159?thread_ts=1708958524.047089&cid=C01UTCS9AAX
